While SI maintains its primary office in Silver Spring, Maryland, U.S.A., its individual members are based in Burma, Thailand, Singapore, Australia and the United States.  SI also maintains a small presence in Yangon.  We currently have an opening for Research/Program Assistant position in our Yangon Office.

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE (PAO15)
 
Program Associate will work closely with Program Office and assist him/her in organizing events, gathering and verifying information for report writing.  In some cases, the Program Associate may be asked to analyze information and draft a summary of reports.  Guided by Program Officer, Program Associate will primarily:

  1. Conduct follow up communication with community, civic and educational leaders to enhance SI partnership with community and civic organizations;
  2. Assist in the execution of SI community empowerment programs and conducts data collection, observation and interviews to appraise SI program effectiveness;
  3. Serve as interpreter for some of the SI community empowerment workshops.
  4. Engages in relationship-building and networking activities and understands the importance of these activities to SI partners;
  5. Represent SI in meetings and seminar related to any public policy issues in Yangon and elsewhere in Myanmar;
  6. Provide administrative support for the smooth operation of SI programs, both research and community empowerment training.
 
Qualifications: A bachelor degree in any social science major.  Interest in and/or knowledge of, evaluation, research methods, study design and measurement, data collection, and quantitative and qualitative analysis are required.   Must be able to type in both English and Burmese.  Ability to speak, read and write (type) in one of Myanmar’s ethnic languages preferred.

Salary: Commensurate with skills and relevant work experience.


PROGRAM ASSISTANT (PAS15)

Intended for recently graduated BA students from Myanmar and other regional universities with good academic records, the position is for those who would like to gain useful work experience before pursuing further studies or moving on to other employment opportunities.  RA mainly support the training, operational and policy work of SI Program Officers and Policy Analysts.

RA’s responsibilities include:
  1. Perform administrative duties as assigned
  2. Maintain and update quantitative and qualitative economic and other social science databases
  3. When necessary, assist program officer to process, consolidate, and transform data sets and evaluate  relationships in databases
  4. Interpret, translate and facilitate at program events and for research activities both in house and in the field.

Qualifications:  Have a good command of English (speaking and writing).  Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a social science major is required.  Final academic transcripts must be submitted prior to appointment.  Must be able to type in both English and Burmese.  Appointments are usually for one year with prospect for extension.

Salary: Commensurate with skills and relevant work experience.

In addition to the core programs, SI works in partnership
with specific community organizations to develop topical programs relevant to the needs of the community.
